February 2020
Greetings Sweet Santosha family,
We hope this letter finds you well and that 2020 is off to a terrific start. Congratulations to our January yoga challenge participants! Whether you made it to one or to thirty-one classes, please take a moment to thank yourself for carving out the time to reconnect and recommit to your yoga practice. We will contact participants shortly via email with discounts and prizes. Well done, yogis! Keep up the hard work and dedication!
With the excitement of the holidays and the novelty of the new year behind us, February can feel a bit anticlimactic. This is the time of year when it often feels like the cold, grey Pacific Northwest winter will last forever. Good news! February 1st is Imbolc, a day celebrated in the Gaelic tradition to honor the midpoint between Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. As we get closer to spring, Imbolc is the promise of renewal, of hidden potential, of earth reawakening and hope arising. Midwinter is a wonderful time to let go of the past and to look to the future, clearing out what no longer serves us to make both outer and inner space for new beginnings, growth, and transformation. On those days when the rain and grey feel infinite, remember that the days are gradually getting longer and lighter and spring is just around the corner. Yoga helps combat the gloom, too! Sweet Santosha is your studio and a place to connect with your community, warm up, and find sanctuary, both on and off the mat.
We have a lot of exciting workshops and events at the studio this month to inspire and encourage a deeper dive into your practice. Maybe you would benefit from a chill afternoon of Yoga Nidra with Mabel? Yoga Nidra is a deeply restorative practice that activates the relaxation response in your body and improves the functioning of your nervous system and endocrine system; it is said to have the same benefits as seven hours of sleep! If you are feeling social, please join us at Yo-Brew, a fun filled vinyasa yoga flow at Downpour Brewery led by Jen Shelton, followed by beer and snacks, and hanging out with your yoga community. Also this month, we have a yin and acupuncture workshop and a backbending and heart opening workshop! Please welcome our three newest teachers: Angela, Chelsea, and Erin! These three stellar yogis are teaching the Friday and Sunday community classes. Please come flow and support our newest teachers and our awesome non-profit of the quarter, Kids in Concert.
We hope you enjoy our February newsletter. Please read on and find below information including details about our upcoming workshops and events, donation based classes, schedule changes, and a new set of teacher and student profiles! As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions, comments, concerns, or just to say hi!
Lots of love,
Elizabeth and Mindy

Non-profit Partnership
We are thrilled to announce our new non-profit partnership for the first quarter of 2020! Thank you to Keely Sawyer for introducing us to the wonderful local organization Kids In Concert (KIC). KIC is an el sistema inspired after school music program in Suquamish. With over 60 students currently enrolled, KIC works to build community and connection, using music as it’s vehicle. In addition to the high quality music instruction, the students receive tutoring, weekly art and reading time, and become part of a community that loves and supports them. One of Keely's favorite things about KIC is its mentoring aspect. The older students mentor the younger students until eventually the younger students become the mentors to others. Youth are empowered to be compassionate leaders. For more information check out their website Kids In Concert
We will have two weekly donation based classes benefiting KIC. Please join us Friday's at 4:00pm and Sunday's at 2:30pm.
